Our Breeding philosophy

At Vom Schön Traumhund, our goal is to produce correct, stable, and well structured West German Show Line Germans Shepherd Dogs that reflect the intent of the SV breed standard. 

The German Shepherd Dog was developed as a working breed. Structure, movement, nerve strength, and trainability matter. 

In our program, we prioritize: 

• Balanced, functional structure
• Strong and stable temperament
• Clear nerves and trainability 
• Sound movement 
• Overall health and longevity 

We evaluate every breeding dog with the goal of producing dogs that represent the breed responsibly and correctly.

We value working titles and formal evaluations as important measures of temperament and structure. While not every dog in our program has completed advanced titles, we actively incorporate titled dogs into our breeding plans and continue working toward higher levels of accomplishment within our own program.

Health testing is a cornerstone of responsible breeding. We follow recommended testing protocols for hips, elbows, heart, eyes, and genetic conditions to ensure we are producing sound, healthy dogs. 

Documentation is available, and transparency with our families is very important to us. 

We do not just breed casually. Each pairing is selected after considering pedigree, structure, temperament, and compatibility. 

We look at: 

• Strengths and weaknesses in both dogs
•  Complementary structure
• Temperament balance
• Pedigree depth and consistency 

Our goal is steady, responsible improvement, not volume. 

The first weeks of life matter. Our puppies are raised with structured exposure and early socialization to build confidence and stability before going to their new homes. 

We view breeding as a responsibility and a journey. Our program continues to grow, learn, and strengthen with each generation.

Our focus is quality, transparency, and producing German Shepherd Dogs that families can be proud to own. 

At Vom Schön Traumhund, we are committed to doing things the right way and continually raising the standard of our program. 

✅VP (Vorzüglich Platzierung) - Very Promising

• The highest rating available to dogs under one year of age when shown at a Regional or Sieger show.
• Excellent Placement: The top rating, awarded to puppies with exceptional potential.

✅P (Promising) 

• Promising: A solid rating, indicating the puppy is still developing but shows a lot of promise.

✅LP (Lobenswert Platzierung) - Less Promising

• LP is a positive rating indicating that the puppy has good qualities but may not be at the level of P or VP.

✅ VA (Vorzuglich Auslese) - Excellent Select  

• The highest rating given only at Sieger Shows.
• Only awarded to fully titled, breed-surveyed (KKL), and exceptional German Shepherds.
• These are the best of the best!

✅ V (Vorzuglich) - Excellent

• A top rating given to dogs over 24 months that are titled (IGP/SchH) and breed surveyed (KKL).
• Indicates a dog of excellent structure, movement, and breed quality.

✅ SG (Sehr Gut) - Very Good

• The highest rating a dog under 24 months can receive.
• For adult dogs, SG means they are of great quality but may not any working titles, keeping them from receiving a V rating.

✅ G (Gut) - Good

• A fair rating given to dogs that meet the standard but have noticeable faults in structure or movement.

✅A (Ausreichend) – Sufficient

• A rating given to dogs that barely meet the breed standard.
• Rarely seen in high level breeding programs (not permitted to be bred by SV)

✅ U (Ungenügend) – "Insufficient"

• Given to dogs with serious faults or disqualifications.

These titles indicate a dog's working ability, temperament, and training:

🔹 IGP1-IGP3 (International Gebrauchshund Prüfung) – Formerly SchH1-SchH3 (Schutzhund). Tests a dog’s tracking, obedience, and protection work.

• IGP1 – Level 1
• IGP2 – Level 2
• IGP3 – Level 3 (Highest Level)

🔹 BH-VT (Begleithund Test) – A temperament and obedience test required before competing in IGP.

🔹 KKL (Körklasse, Breed Surveyed) – Means the dog has been evaluated for breeding suitability and is recommended for breeding.

🔹 LBZ (Lebenszeit Zucht, Lifetime Breed Survey) - Means the dog passed the breed survey and has been granted lifetime breeding approval, rather than needing to be re-surveyed after a limited period. 

🔹 AD (Ausdauerprüfung, Endurance Test) – A 12-mile running test to assess stamina and fitness.

🔹 WB (WesenTest) - The Wesenstest is a temperament test for German Shepherds and other working breeds.
